TMJ in Carmel, IN

Waking up with a headache or jaw pain isn’t what most people would call a good morning, yet some people deal with that pain every single day. Sometimes it occurs throughout the day. You might feel the same neck or jaw pain after eating a meal, driving to work, or after a long phone call. If you are suffering from recurring headaches, jaw, or neck pain, it’s time to come see us at Really Smile for a TMJ exam.

TMJ is an abbreviation for temporomandibular joint. It is the joint that holds your lower jaw on your skull. This joint can sometimes become injured or develop pain, popping or cracking, or limited movement. We call this TMJ disorder, and there are many different approaches to treatment. Some dentists will slap a bite guard in your mouth and hope that it takes care of the problem. We like to take things to the next level and really see what is happening!

Treating TMJ

The key to treating TMJ is to first find out what is causing the pain. Through detailed images, we can get an idea of what is going on in your mouth and how to best correct it. This might mean retraining your jaw by using oral appliances, teaching you relaxation techniques, or in rare cases, minor surgery to correct an injury to your TMJ. Our holistic approach gets results that will really correct the problem and remove your pain for good.

If you’ve been diagnosed with recurring headaches, it might be time to check in with the dentist. Often headaches are a result of a problem somewhere else in the body, and your jaw is the first place we’d look. Contact us today to set up an appointment. Let us help you overcome your pain and get the solution you need.
