Tips on Oral Health

By on May 28, 2014

Prevention is better than cure. This is what preventive dentistry is all about. It focuses on the importance of achieving optimal oral health through daily care combined with treatments provided by your dentist. Here are some tips to keep your teeth healthy and bright.

Go for healthy food
Did you know that your eating habits could affect the condition of your teeth and gums and your general health as well? Eat healthy foods that include whole wheat, fruits, vegetables, protein, and low-fat dairy products. Don’t forget to drink plenty of water everyday and clean your mouth after meal.

Shape up!
Regular exercise can help prevent weight gain and lessen your risk of gum disease. In one study, researchers observed that people who exercise had a lower incidence of severe gum disease than those who did not exercise.

Avoid bad oral habits
Oral habits such as teeth grinding, nail biting, and biting on hard foods or objects can damage your pearly whites. It can chip off or fracture your teeth. Stay away from these bad practices.

Quit smoking
Smoking is a major cause of oral and dental disease in the US. Tobacco smoke is harmful to the tissues in your mouth. It contains toxins that can damage the bone that surround and support your teeth. If you’re a smoker, it’s time to quit the bad habit.

See your dentist
Aside from your oral care, you need the help of your dentist to keep your teeth and gums in tip-top shape. Drop by at the clinic in Carmel, IN to get routine checkups, professional teeth cleaning, and other necessary treatments.
