Painless and comfortable dentistry in Carmel, IN
Many Americans are terrified of dental visits, postponing care and treatment until absolutely necessary. With Sedation Dentistry or NuCalm Relaxation Dentistry, you can say goodbye to anxiety and hello to beautiful, healthy teeth.
Sedation Dentistry
Sedation dentistry is the use of sedative drugs to remove anxiety and help patients relax before dental procedures. Dr. Smith and the Really Smile team offer all methods of sedation, including nitrous oxide/laughing gas, oral sedation and have partnered with an anesthesiologist for the most anxious and fearful patients.
Nitrous oxide or laughing gas is administered through a mask placed over the patient’s nose. The level of sedation is mild to moderate, and the effects easily wear off when the gas is turned off. Nitrous oxide is recommended for patients with mild anxiety.
With oral conscious sedation, you take a pill about an hour before your appointment to help you relax. You are conscious throughout the procedure, but with a reduced awareness of what is happening around you. You may fall asleep, but you can be easily awakened by Dr. Smith. Oral sedation is ideal for patients with mild to moderate anxiety.
General anesthesia is offered to the most anxious and fearful patients. With general anesthesia, the patient will be completely asleep for the entire appointment and have no memory or recollection. We have partnered with an anesthesiologist who utilizes hospital grade monitoring equipment to be able to offer this level of relaxation to our patients in a dental office environment.
